Gunmen abduct DPO in Nasarawa, demand N5 million ransom

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have kidnapped the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, CSP Haruna Adulmalik.

The DPO in charge of Nasarawa Eggon Division, was abducted around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, June 22, along Bakyano-Arikya road while returning from supervision of officers deployed to provide security along the road.

It was obtained that the DPO ran into the kidnappers who attacked his patrol hilux and whisked him away.

The DPO few days ago held a security meeting in the area with all the stakeholders where he expressed determination to assure farmers/herders have a bumper harvest this season.

The Nations reported that the abductors have contacted the DPO's family and demanded for N5 million ransom for his release.

The Overseer of Akun Development area of Nasarawa Eggon local government, Hon Moses Anvah, who confirmed abduction of the DPO, said they have made a formal complaint to the Commissioner of Police.

Deputy Chairman of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Engr Benjamin Kuze, told The Nation the DPO was returning from a patrol around Bakeno/Arikya road when he ran into the kidnappers.
