Three gang arrested for stealing vehicle engines from mechanic shops in Ilorin

Three gang suspects have been arrested in Ilorin for alleged theft and burglary by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command.


The other members of the gang are now on the run and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.


According to the spokesman of the Command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday, the suspects gang apecialise in stealing engines and other parts of vehicles parked in mechanics workshops.


Daily Post reported that the three arrested suspects gang now in the custody of the Defence Corps Command, are Dauda Wasiu (17), Qowiyu Kareem (18) and Daud Bello (18).


The two other members of the gang now at large are Dada Durojaye and Jamiu Fawaz.


According to the spokesman, the gang members allegedly raid mechanic workshops and garages to steal vehicle engines and other motor parts when the mechanics might have left their places of work.


He said, “on Sunday 24th October 2021, one Yusuf Muritala, came to lodge a complaint about missing vehicle engine and other parts where they are kept and mentioned names of the suspects.”


Babawale said the three suspects gang were later rounded up at their hideouts at Offa garage, while the remaining two other suspects gang have been placed on the wanted list of the command.


“One of the suspects gang, Dauda Wasiu, has confessed to the stealing of the motor engine and that he was only given N2,000 after the operation,” the spokesman added.
