Osun Commissioner of Police relocates to Modakeke as gunmen kill two farmers

The Osun State Police Command on Sunday, said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the attack on and killing of some farmers in Alapata village, Modakeke.


The spokesperson for the command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident in a chat with our correspondent on Sunday, saying through intelligence, operatives arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.


The Punch gathered that the latest killings came barely nine days after five farmers were murdered along the Toro Road, Modakeke, by yet-to-identified assailants.


As of the time of filling this report, one other farmer, who was declared missing after the attack, which occurred on Saturday, had yet to be found.


A community leader in Modakeke, Femi Eluyinka, explained that the assailants abducted five indigenes of the town from their farms in Alapata village on Saturday.


Eluyinka stated, “One of those abducted later escaped and ran to town to inform us. The community immediately informed the DPO of the Modakeke Division.


“The DPO led his men and alongside our youths to the area and recovered two corpses. Alapata village is after Toro village. The two corpses were taken to the OAUTHC, Ile Ife.


“Later, we were informed that another person, a woman, had also escaped from the assailants. She was injured on her hand. She was brought to the Ogunsua’s palace and from there, we took her to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.


“We are still searching for the last person now. A man and a woman were killed. We took their corpses to the morgue around 10.30pm on Saturday. The situation is still calm, because we appealed you our people to allow the elders to deliberate and find solution to the killings.”


Opalola, while commenting on the development, said the Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, had relocated to the area to ensure the security of lives and property.


“Two suspects have been nabbed in connection with the killings. We are also searching for others involved in the killings. Intelligence led to the arrest of the suspects,” Opalola stated.
