Manchester United overcame Brighton in dramatic fashion on the south coast.

Bruno Fernandes scored the vital winner for Manchester United in the 3-2 victory at Brighton but the Portugal international was not best pleased with his team-mates' performance.

Fernandes' 100th minute penalty secured United's first win of the season in one of the most dramatic games of the campaign so far. Brighton only scored their equaliser five minutes into added time through Solly March.

But United were not done and after a consultation with VAR, Neal Maupay had adjudged to have handled in the penalty area following a Harry Maguire header.

Fernandes stepped up and continued his 100 per cent record from 12 yards for the Red Devils.

Brighton will feel aggrieved not to have claimed at least a point from the match at the Amex.

Graham Potter's side hit the woodwork on five occasions, three of those off the boot of Leandro Trossard.

Fernandes played a role in Brighton's opening goal, giving away a penalty for a foul on Tariq Lamptey.

Maupay converted the spot kick and Fernandes admitted he should not have brought Lamptey down like he did.

However, the 26-year-old also called out his team-mates for giving Brighton too much time on the ball and also the way the second goal was conceded.

"It was a difficult game," Fernandes told BT Sport. "We know Brighton have a really good team. They can play, they have qualities, they're aggressive. "In the first half we left so many spaces for them to play. We were not aggressive as I wanted.

"We gave away two goals, the penalty I can do much better, I need to stop earlier. "This second goal, we need to do much better also.

We did some mistakes but big teams need to be like that, you need to believe it until the end.

"We created a chance, okay it was a penalty, we scored from a penalty, but if it's not a handball maybe it goes on goal.

"There is no point saying anything at this point, it's looking forward and thinking again against Brighton to do much better than we did today."
