Harry Maguire's alleged incident in Greece has cast doubt over his involvement in England's upcoming games with Iceland and Denmark as Gareth Southgate prepares to pick his squad

Harry Maguire is due to find out whether he will be selected for England's upcoming Nations League games following his Mykonos fracas.

The Manchester United captain will have over the phone discussions with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate ahead of games with Denmark and Iceland.

A 27-man squad will be selected but the England manager has always placed a particular onus on the conduct of his players.

Maguire was due to fly home following his release after his alleged brawl with Greek police last Friday, which ended with the defender spending two days in the cells.

The 26-year-old's hearing will take place on Tuesday which is the same day that Southgate announces his squad for England's trip to the Icelandic capital.

They play in Reykjavic on August 5 before playing the Danes in Copenhagen three days later.

Maguire has denied the charges against him but there will be doubts over his mindset ahead of England's two games.

Southgate will consider players from both Manchester clubs despite their prolonged seasons.

United's Europa League run ended in the semi-finals while City were once again knocked out in the last eight.

The England boss will be sympathetic however towards players who want time to rest ahead of the new season, although he intends to select his strongest possible squad.

Football's calendar is having to take on a new look following its lengthy postponement and the Premier League season begins just four days after England's game in Denmark.

Both Manchester sides have been given extra recovery time however with their opening games taking place a week later than the rest.

Southgate has injury concerns with Leicester pair Ben Chilwell and James Maddison set to miss out.

Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also likely to be absentees.
