Lewandowski scored Bayern’s second goal of the match, taking his Bundesliga tally for this season to a league-topping 11


Robert Lewandowski simply never gets tired of scoring goals, breaking records, and hitting incredible milestones. So far this season, Lewandowski has picked up right where he left off in the treble-winning 2019/2020 season for Bayern Munich and he put in another solid shift in a 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion in Der Klassiker.


In the victory, Lewandowski scored Bayern’s second goal of the match, taking his Bundesliga tally for this season to a league-topping 11. The goal was a finely taken header from an inch perfect cross from Lucas Hernandez that gave Roman Burki no chance of stopping it.


The goal was Lewandowski’s 24th goal of his career in Der Klassiker, 19 of which have been for Bayern. That means he’s the highest scoring player in the bitter rivalry and he also marked the occasion by making his 300th competitive appearance for Bayern (per FCBayern.com). The goal also moved him one mark higher in the list of most goals scored against Dortmund by Bayern players (17). His closest rival in that department is Gerd MĂ¼ller, who scored 14 times against Dortmund during his playing days.


The goal:



Lewandowski also had two goals disallowed due to offside VAR decisions; one in the 24th minute where his right knee was fractionally offside, and then one in the 93rd minute when most of the left side of his body was ruled offside. The first disallowed goal had significantly tighter margins, but by the current rule of law, both decisions were, in fact, correct. Despite having two goals disallowed, Lewandowski also provided the assist for Leroy Sane’s goal in what was a textbook counterattack from Bayern in the 80th minute and it ultimately proved to be the match winner.


Having already found the back of the net eleven times in only seven Bundesliga match days, Lewandowski has repeated that feat for the second consecutive season. The only difference is that this season, he’s only played in six of those seven league matches having been rested for the 2-1 win over FC Köln last weekend. Last season, he started and played in all of the first seven matches.
